National Homeless Persons’ Memorial Day remembers those who have died because they did not have shelter. The day takes place each year on the longest night of the year, December 21st, and each event is unique to its community.
In DC, People for Fairness Coalition is hosting its 7th Annual Vigil to remember those who died in 2019 without the dignity of a home. The Vigil begins the evening of Thursday, December 19th, and culminates at noon on December 20th with a Homeless Day Memorial Service where the names of individuals who died in DC will be read.
This event, like many across the country, reminds us why we must continue working towards ending homelessness; it is the fact that no person should die because of a lack of housing.
