Over 700,000 Americans became homeless after Hurricane Katrina -- adding to the estimated 3.5 million men, women, and children already homeless across the country.
Ø The Law Center is responding to the immediate, intermediate, and long-term needs of people affected by the disaster.
Ø Due to both hurricanes Katrina and Rita, NLCHP's work became more crucial than ever.
Ø In response, we launched a special initiative to assist the victims on two fronts: assisting those who lost their housing to the hurricanes and those who were homeless before the hurricanes.
Ø We are working to ensure that the national response includes meeting the needs of those most directly affected, rebuilding long-term, permanent housing, and ensuring basic safety net resources are in place for everyone experiencing homelessness.
