Save the Date! On November 15, from 6 - 9 p.m. at at the Renaissance Downtown Hotel in Washington, D.C., the Law Center will host its 14th Annual McKinney-Vento Awards.
This year's honorees include:
- Sandra Lee, Emmy® Award-winner, New York Times bestselling author, and philanthropist
- R.I. Senator John Tassoni, the R.I. Coalition for the Homeless, and the R.I. Homeless Advocacy Project, leading advocates for the "Homeless Bill of Rights"
- Covington & Burling LLP, a law firm with an exemplary commitment to pro bono service
- Danae Vachata, formerly homeless youth and president of the Bell Fund
Each year, the McKinney-Vento Awards acknowledge outstanding leadership by individuals and groups working to end homelessness, while paying tribute to Congressmen Stewart B. McKinney and Bruce F. Vento, who co-authored the first major legislation to address this national crisis. This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act, which Law Center founder Maria Foscarinis helped pass in 1987.
