The State of Homelessness and Poverty in America
On Thursday, July 19 from
2 - 4 PM at the National
Association of Realtors' top floor and roof-deck at 500 New Jersey Ave., NW, the
National Law Center on Homelessness and Poverty will recognize the 25th
Anniversary of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act and consider "The State of Homelessness and Poverty in
America." Special
guests will include Congresswoman Judy Biggert (IL-R) and Congressman Alcee L.
Hastings (D-FL), and the event will feature excerpts from Tom Morgan's upcoming documentary, "These Storied Streets," which shares the heartbreaking and
inspiring stories of several homeless people and includes a voice-over by Susan
Sarandon.
The
event
will serve as an opportunity to look back and commemorate the important
impact
of McKinney-Vento over the past 25 years -- as well as work that
remains to be
done to meet the goal of ending and preventing homelessness in America.
We will also give special recognition to our exemplary LEAP members and
pro bono partners.
This event is co-sponsored by The National Center for Housing and Child Welfare, The National Low Income Housing Coalition, The National Alliance to End Homelessness, The Corporation for Supportive Housing, The National Coalition for the Homeless, The National Center on Family Homelessness, The National Network for Youth, and First Focus. Please RSVP to anniversary@nlchp.org
or (202) 638-2535.
